- Upon entry of the air streams into the pin array, the round nature of the pins creates turbulence within the heat sink. Turbulent air breaks the stagnant air boundary layers around the pins and as a result enhances the heat sink's thermal performance.
- As a result, the pin fin technology generates the best use of surrounding airflows. Combining this fact with the large surface areas that are typical to pin fins, results in the combination of low thermal resistances and low pressure drop.
- UltraCool pin fin heat sinks have been optimized to further improve the natural cooling power generated by the pin fin technology, both in terms of design and metallurgy.
- In term of design, UltraCool heat sinks have been configured to optimize air intake into the pin array. (Both pin densities and pin diameters have been optimized). UltraCool heat sinks are offered in three configurations that are each optimized for a specific airspeed range.
- In terms of metallurgy, UltraCool heat sinks are manufactured using highly conductive copper and aluminum alloys. The use of these materials provides a cooling premium and also improves the spreading of heat along the base. (UltraCool III heat sinks are manufactured from pure aluminum, UltraCool IV heat sinks are manufactured from oxygen-free copper).
