- Densely configured pin fins provide additional cooling power when placed in the impingement cooling mode
- Impingement cooling consists of a fan being placed directly on top of the heat sink, in a perpendicular fashion
- Impingement cooling provides up to a 20 per cent performance premium when compared to traditional cooling from the side
- In the impingement cooling mode, the air is distributed evenly along the surface of the heat sink, thus eliminating the temperature gradient that is typical to horizontal cooling. The larger the heat sink, the more significant this effect is
- The additional cooling power stems from the increased air turbulence between the pins in the impingement cooling mode
